Why is it important?
Over our lifetime, up to half of us will face a cancer diagnosis. For many, this diagnosis occurs during career years (from age 18-66 on average).
According to the research we conducted, seven out of ten people feel that a cancer diagnosis will negatively impact someone’s career.
This statistic is deeply concerning as it reflects a sentiment where employees may fear stigma, discrimination, or job insecurity during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives.
A perception like this can lead to added stress, as well as undermining inclusivity and support within organisations, which can lead to a lack of trust between employees and employers.
Creating a workplace that supports employees through cancer ensures the individual can focus on their health while maintaining dignity and career stability.
Openly showing support to employees reduces stigma and educates everyone on how best to help employees when they need it most.
